More recently evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process that occurs when living organisms develop traits that enhance their chances of survival or ability to reproduce offspring. In time the genetic variability could lead to the emergence of entirely new physical or biological traits in the same population. The change in gene frequencies is called natural selection, and it drives most evolutionary change. However, non-genetic changes such as the increase in muscle mass due to diet or exercise can’t be considered to be examples of evolution since they are not passed on to future generations.

While these are troubling developments, it is also important to remember that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution is based on a variety of sources, including fossils, genetics and the behavior of living creatures. Other scientists independently confirm the evidence.

The vast majority of scientists believe in the theory of evolution. The reason for this is many different reasons. Some scientists study evolution to discover practical solutions, such as developing treatments or developing new medicines, while others are driven by an interest in improving the quality of life for animals and plant species, typically to benefit humans. Some are simply curious, whereas still others have a deep religious belief in God and want to understand how the universe functions.

What is Creationism?

The most common type of creationist is known as the YEC. They believe that God created the universe in exactly the way described in the Bible. YECs believe that the biblical account of the six days of creation is true and that the universe and life on Earth started only recently.

OECs may be less well-known, but their beliefs are just as intense like those of YECs. OECs believe that the universe and all life on Earth are billions of years old, and they believe that evolution is an untruth.

Both forms of creationism deny that scientific principles like natural selection and abiogenesis could explain the origins of life on Earth. They claim that evolution is not possible because it would require the creation of a miracle, and the pioneers of modern science rejected miracles out of fear that they would lose credibility.

Some creationists are able to accept both naturalistic evolution and special creation, and call their belief „theistic evolution.“ This is sometimes known as „continuous creationism“ or „evolution from created kinds.“ The theory says that God creates the original species and then allows them to change over time. In the end, these evolutionary changes will create new species that are identical to the original species.

Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the entire universe in one event known as the Great Flood. They believe that all species were created at the same time and then gradually evolved. They also reject the concept of abiogenesis, and argue that the emergence of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is unattainable.

In general, the creationists are opposed to the teaching of evolution in schools. This position is supported by a variety of professional organizations, including the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education and the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. However, some academic institutions and scientists are more flexible, and permit the inclusion of both evolution and creationism in their curriculum.

What is Creationism?

When people think about creationism, many of them think of the United States. However, South Korea is also home to an anti-evolution movement. The publishers of textbooks for high school students have recently announced that they will remove references to evolution from their editions. A group dubbed the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an unofficial body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research which is the driving force behind the campaign. STR has achieved its first victory in removing instances of the evolution of the horse and an avian ancestor, the Archeopteryx in textbooks. Its sights are now set on removing excerpts from Darwin’s infamous finch research and on human evolution too.

STR claims that it has the support of 4000 families and individuals. Its mission is to cut out what it believes is the „atheist materialism“ that paints an unhopeful worldview for students. It also aims to counteract the influence of American creationists who live in the US. A survey of biology students teachers revealed that a majority do not believe in evolution. The reasons aren’t certain, but could be related to religious beliefs or the lack of creation scientists in the country.

The KACR has achieved a lot through its seminars and lectures in the past. It publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and the book. The most notable of these is a text on the natural sciences with an evolutionary perspective that attracted the attention of college communities. In 1991, a professor, together with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught to students today.

On August 6 and 7, 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. It was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six foreign lecturers, including ICR’s John Morris and Steven Austin, spoke to thousands of people. KACR members and KACR have also given talks on creation science in major seminaries. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center in the near future.
